Unlucky Boardsmill Deserved a lot more

St Ultan’s2-10

Elaine Duffy’s last minute converted free earned St Ultan’s a narrow Ladies FL Div 1 victory over hosts Boardsmill on Wednesday evening last. A shock win for Boardsmill looked on the cards throughout a contest which they rarely trailed. St Ultan’s started well and opened up a three-point gap early in the game, but with Laura Dempsey in explosive form Boardsmill rallied to take the lead. Duffy missed a penalty in the first-half, but the SFC champions were boosted when Ger Doherty netted with the last kick of the half to establish a 1-5 to 0-7 lead.

That lead was wiped out after the break with Dempsey and Ciara Ashe on target. Boardsmill were boosted when Dempsey converted a penalty, but St Ultan’s respionded with a second goal and with 10 minutes remaining Boardsmill were still two points to the good. However, st Ultan’s rallied late and Duffy’s injury-time point proved to be the decisive score. Dempsey, Emma Troy, Laura Bagnall, Suzy Kennedy and Helen Regan were best for Boardsmill, while Doherty, Katie O’Brien, Duffy and Irene Munnelly impressed for St Ultan’s.
