Half time Na Fianna 1.1 Boardsmill  2.4

Venue Baconstown  10/3/13

Local rivalry with an extra edge was the order of the day at windy Baconstown on Sunday afternoon. Na Fianna manager Berti McLoughlin was taking charge of Na Fianna against the team he coached to last years Senior final in the first round of the this years senior league.

The game started briskly with Na Fianna registering an early point before Boardsmillresponded with a clinical finish to the net by top scorer Laura Griffin . The Mill girls playing with the wind at their backs tagged on 3  quick points through Michela Stellini , Helen Regan and Katie Hackett before  Na Fiannas full forward Niamh Kirby grabbed the first of her 2 goals .  That score was soon cancelled out by Boardsmills Edel Guy who was first to react to a rebound , finishing  to the Na Fiannanet Boardsmill’s dominance was built around their midfield triumvirate of Regan Aideen Guy and Emma Troy but the game was finely balanced with 6 points between the teams and the wind supporting hosts Na Fianna in the second half .

Griffin scored a point on the run 3 minutes  after the restart , which was quickly followed by a free from Susan Kealey after Griffin was fouled on the 21 yard line.

Andrea Colgan tagged on a point from a close range free before Laura Dempsey scored the point of the game after a trademark  defence splitting  run . Dempsey registered a second soon after before Deirdre Flynn got the first of her 3  points fine points from  play . The game whipped from end to end at this stage with Griffin tagging on another point before Kirby  snatched a second goal to leave  6  points between the teams once again . Na Fianna poured on the pressure with Flynn  snatching 2 quick points to reduce the deficit to 4. Michela Stellini had followed Maeve Downey all over the pitch all afternoon  and popped up to win a vital free in front of the posts . Susan Kealey, Boardsmills 15 year old free  taker made no mistake to close out the game . The final scoreline of 2.5 to 2.10 was a fair reflection of a contest that often threatened to spark into life but never quite reached the levels that these teams are capable of .

Boardsmill were best served by GrffinHackett, and Kealey  who were well supportedby Stellini, Troy , Regan and Aideen Guy
